Abstract
Korean Abstract: 1920년대 수박 영상이 일제강점기 이규설 감독의 현존 조선 최초 무성영화에서 발견됐다. 필자가 이 영화를 볼 이유가 없었다. 영화 제목이 근로의 끝에는 가난이 없다,로써 당시 일제가 조선인들을 계몽하고자 제작했다는 한국영상자료원의 설명에도 불구하고 김원보 선생(1897년 출생, 독립운동가 추정)의 격투모습을 본것은 무엇에 끌리듯이 영상을 클릭했기 때문이다. 김원보 선생의 동작, 기술 및 몸 움직임 등은 필자가 해당 영상을 수차 반복해서 보고 영상을 캡쳐해가면서도 1920년대에 이렇게나 숙련 된 분이 계셨구나 하는 감탄을 하게된다. 영상 속 체격 큰분 성함이 김원보인데 이분 관련해서 이후 영화쪽에서 자료를 찾을 수가 없었다. 같이 출연했던 박순봉의 경우 1970년대까지도 활발한 영화계 참여가 있던 반면에,,, 따라서, 감독을 맡았던 이규설이 이 영화 관련해서 민간인(영화인이 아닌) 김원보를 섭외(격투장면 촬영을 위해서) 했을수도 있다는 생각에(총 18분 분량 영화에서 격투장면이 1분이나 된다) 사회 다른 계통에서 김원보를 추적 했다.
English Abstract: A video of the traditional martial art "Subak" (subak) from the 1920s was discovered in the first surviving Korean silent film, directed by Lee Gyu-seol during the Japanese colonial period. I had no reason to see this film. Despite the Korean Film Archive's explanation that the film was titled "There's No Poverty at the End of Labor," and that it was produced by the Japanese to enlighten Koreans, I clicked on the video, seemingly drawn to the action. I watched the video repeatedly, capturing footage of Kim Won-bo's movements, techniques, and body movements. I was so impressed by the skill of this skilled figure in the 1920s that I couldn't find any further information about him. The large man in the video is named Kim Won-bo, but I couldn't find any further information about him in the film industry. While Park Soon-bong, who co-starred with him, remained active in the film industry until the 1970s, Therefore, I suspected that director Lee Gyu-seol might have recruited Kim Won-bo, a civilian (not a filmmaker), to film a fight scene (the fight scene lasts a full minute in the 18-minute film). So, I tracked down Kim Won-bo through other social circles.
